St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center

In 2009, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, then part of Catholic Healthcare West, now Dignity Health, became affiliated with Creighton University School of Medicine via the establishment of a Phoenix Regional Campus.  The purpose of this affiliation was to provide additional clinical opportunities for 3rd-  and 4th-year medical students during their clerkships. As of June 1, 2018, Creighton University School of Medicine became the official sponsoring institution for all of the graduate medical education (GME) programs within the institution. In addition to the above, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is home to and/or has affiliations with:

Valleywise Health Medical Center

Valleywise Health Medical Center is a 325-bed acute care hospital located near the heart of downtown Phoenix and is a tertiary referral center for ambulatory care and long-term care within Maricopa County, as well as the state of Arizona. Valleywise Health Medical Center’s primary mission is providing care for the poor in the community. The hospital sees a large case load in Level I Trauma, and houses the renowned Arizona Burn Center.

The Arizona Burn Center (ABC) at Valleywise Health has the distinction of being the state’s only adult and pediatric tertiary burn center verified by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and has 45 beds.

At the ABC, we treat every imaginable type of burn – including those caused by fire, hot liquids, electricity and lightning, chemicals, smoke inhalation, and Arizona’s extreme summer heat. We also care for patients with severe skin infections, such as necrotizing fasciitis and other skin diseases, as well as severe acute and chronic wounds.

Working in partnership with our nationally verified Trauma Center, the Arizona Burn Center offers critically injured patients a greater than 98 percent survival rate, exceeding the national average of 94 percent.

The ABC cares for more than 1,000 inpatients, 2,500 emergency room patients, and 5,000 outpatients a year who come from Arizona, California, New Mexico, southern Utah and Northern Mexico.

  • Mayo Clinic Hospital - Phoenix, Arizona
  • Mayo Clinic Hospital was designed to provide state-of-the-art inpatient medical care with maximum efficiency in a patient-and-visitor-friendly environment.  Mayo Clinic Hospital has 208 licensed beds, and provides inpatient care to support the 65 medical and surgical specialties and programs of Mayo Clinic. The Transplant Center at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale provides solid organ transplantation for liver, kidneys and pancreas. Established in 1999 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in northeast Phoenix, the program has quickly become recognized for its exceptional quality and multiple firsts in the state of Arizona. The key to the success of the program is collaboration with Mayo specialists at all three Mayo Clinic sites – Rochester, MN, Jacksonville, FL, and Scottsdale as well as the focus on Mayo’s primary value – the needs of the patient come first. The Transplant Center has performed a number of firsts in Arizona. The first laparoscopic procedure for a living kidney transplant was completed in 1999 and continues to be the primary way in which living donor kidney transplants are done. The first living donor liver transplant in Arizona was also done at Mayo Clinic in April 2001 when a brother donated a portion of his liver to his brother. Then in January 2003, the Transplant Center performed the state’s first domino liver transplant, a creative way to optimize the limited supply of donor organs. Fourth year residents rotate on the Transplant service for two months and offers outstanding resident exposure to renal, pancreas, and hepatic transplantation, as well was advanced hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.
