Creighton names vice provost of Health Sciences Campuses

Catherine Todero, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and dean of the Creighton University College of Nursing, has been named the vice provost of Health Sciences Campuses for Creighton University.

In her new role, Todero will be responsible for the educational, clinical and community engagement programs of Creighton’s health sciences colleges and schools. Based in Omaha, she will provide leadership, oversight and stewardship to all aspects of Creighton’s health sciences academic programs and facilities at both the Phoenix and Omaha campuses. She also will continue to serve as dean of Creighton’s College of Nursing.

With the appointment, she also joins the board of the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance. Randy Richardson, MD, who had been serving as the interim vice provost of the Phoenix Health Sciences Campus, will remain regional dean of the Creighton University School of Medicine – Phoenix.

Todero, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Creighton in 1972, has served as dean of the Creighton College of Nursing since 2015. She had previously served as associate dean and director of Azusa Pacific University School of Nursing, San Diego Regional Center.

She has been instrumental in the development of the Creighton University Health Sciences – Phoenix Campus. As part of strategic planning efforts, she served as a goal steward for the Phoenix health sciences campus initiative. Todero also led the establishment of the College of Nursing’s accelerated BSN degree program in Phoenix and served as program lead in planning for the new $100 million, 180,000-square-foot building at Park Central in midtown Phoenix.

The Phoenix campus will include a four-year satellite medical school and eventually serve nearly 900 Creighton students studying to be physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. First classes will begin in the fall of 2021.

As the senior health sciences leader, Todero will report to the provost and join the leadership team of Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD, as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
