Keith Paley, MD, has joined the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance as associate program director for the General Surgery residency program.
In his new role, he will oversee the merger of the Valleywise Health and Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center’s general surgery program.
Prior to his new position, Paley was an attending surgeon in the Mayo Clinic Health System in Owatonna, Minnesota, and a core faculty member in acute care surgery service at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
“It (Mayo Clinic) was a great place and I was sad to leave. But I’m really interested in full-time teaching,” he said. “My career has evolved to a point where this is what I’ve chosen – training new residents.”
Paley started his new position Oct. 16. He will continue to practice general surgery with a specialty in hernia surgery out of Valleywise Health. He is also seeking privileges to practice out of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Paley join our faculty at the helm of our soon-to-be combined general surgery program,” said Elizabeth Ferguson, MD, FACS, who is the Creighton Alliance Designated Institutional Official. “He brings with him both experience in the private sector and in a busy academic, quaternary center. He is well-equipped to lead our programs into the future.”
He and his wife, Cynthia, have an adult son, Matthew.
