Behavioral Health Update

Efforts are underway to open a second Behavioral Health unit for COVID-19 positive patients at Valleywise Behavioral Health Center – Maryvale. The Behavioral Health clinical teams, Infection Prevention and Control and the Laboratory team are working diligently to test everyone who meets the criteria and get the results back quickly.

The IT teams are using Bugsy, the infection control module in Epic, to identify which patients may have been in the same vicinity as COVID-19 positive patients and making action plans accordingly.

As an extra measure of caution, any patient showing signs or symptoms of illness, even if they test negative for COVID-19, are being held in isolation for up to 72 hours. Those patients will then be tested a second time before moving into the unit.

Lab Testing Milestone

The Valleywise Health Laboratory has reached a major milestone by completing more than 1,000 COVID-19 tests since going live with this capability on March 23. Valleywise Health was one of the first health care systems in Arizona to implement a testing system that can detect COVID-19 in about 45 minutes or less, which has brought down the number of Persons Under Investigation (PUI) significantly.
